Unlike TED 2008, I didn't blog actively or daily this year. Some of reasoning was that I was only able to stay for two-thirds of the conference due to our twin girls. The other part of it was because I had work to do during the evenings and couldn't devote the mental energy to effectively reflect upon each day.

TED Prize Winner: Jamie Oliver
I thought Jamie Oliver's wish was a good step forward for America. His talk with informative and inspiring. Jamie Oliver’s Wish:
“I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.”

2009 TED Prize Winners Unveiled
TED has announced the three winners of the 2009 TED Prize. Very cool.
They are:
- the woman leading the world's search for extra-terrestrial life
- the deep-sea explorer who's spent her life campaigning for the oceans
- the maestro who's transformed the lives of tens of thousands of kids... through classical music
Deep ocean explorer Sylvia Earle, astronomer Jill Cornell Tarter, and maestro José Antonio Abreu are the winners. Congratulations!

XDRTB.org & James Nachtwey's Fight Against Tuberculosis
James Nachtwey won the TED Prize in 2007 and the fruits of his dream and effort from numerous collaborators is becoming a reality. This past weekend and in the coming days his incredible pictures are being projected at scale in public places in 50 cities worldwide.
Time magazine is running a 7-page feature in all of its global editions published today. Many other media are on board to support the effort, including Boston Globe, The London Observer, Youtube, and Wired.com. More from the site:
XDRTB.org is an extraordinary effort to tell the story of extremely drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) and TB through powerful photographs taken by James Nachtwey. XDR-TB, or extremely drug-resistant tuberculosis, is a new and deadly mutation of tuberculosis. Similar in creation to multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) but more extreme in its manifestation, it arises when common tuberculosis goes untreated or standard TB drugs are misused. James’ photographs represent these varying strains. Learn more about TB, MDR-TB and XDR-TB, and learn how you can take action to stop this deadly disease.
Photographer James Nachtwey has been covering war and human rights stories for 30 years, traveling from Northern Ireland to Iraq, from the orphanages of Romania to the deadly killing grounds of the Sudan. ONE | Voices
ONE is nonprofit dedicated to ending poverty. The organization was a result of Bono's TED Prize wish. Anyway, their new ad campaign is starting soon:
"For more than a year, ONE members have been trailing the presidential candidates asking them to go on the record with their plans to combat global poverty. Now we're taking our message to the airways with this major new TV ad. The ad features Matt Damon with different Americans' voices - among them Michelle Obama, Cindy McCain and Mayor Bloomberg.
Watch for it on TV and across the Internet starting Sunday, August 24th, but add your voice and share the online video with your friends now."

NextEinstein Project... Considering Joining!
When Christine and I attended this year's TED conference, we were inspired by various talks and events. One of them for me was Neil Turok's wish:
“My wish is that you help us unlock and nurture scientific talent across Africa, so that within our lifetimes we are celebrating an African Einstein.”
After TED, I committed to volunteering some of my time and resources to Neil's wish. They recently launched the NextEinstein site. Very cool and exciting. Check it out and considering helping out!

2008 TEDPrize Winners
Last night when the 2008 TEDPrize winners were announced and presented was my favorite part of Day Two. The winners were Dave Eggers, Neil Turok, and Karen Armstrong.
Dave's Wish
“I wish that you - you personally and every creative individual and organization you know - will find a way to directly engage with a public school in your area and that you’ll then tell the story of how you got involved, so that within a year we have 1,000 examples of transformative partnerships.”

“My wish is that you help us unlock and nurture scientific talent across Africa, so that within our lifetimes we are celebrating an African Einstein.”
Karen's Wish
“I wish that you would help with the creation, launch and propagation of a Charter for Compassion, crafted by a group of leading inspirational thinkers from the three Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam and based on the fundamental principles of universal justice and respect.”
