Events in the Bay Area and D.C.

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 13, 2008. WASHINGTON, D.C.

"Lessons from the Poor: The Power of Entrepreneurship"

Time: 12:00pm - 5:00pm

Location: Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

Independent Policy Forum seminar, “Lessons from the Poor: The Power of Entrepreneurship,” at which Senior Fellow Alvaro Vargas Llosa, former Bolivian President Jorge Quiroga, renowned economist William R. Easterly, and a distinguished group of policy experts will examine how entrepreneurialism drives economic development. Especially for those living in abject poverty, in societies dominated by political corruption, high taxes, and regulation, innovators must overcome enormous challenges. Wealth transfer, cronyism, and legal insecurity all conspire against progress. This seminar will discuss the findings in the new book Lessons from the Poor: Triumph of the Entrepreneurial Spirit which features inspiring examples of entrepreneurship in countries ranging from Africa to Latin America and urges countries to embrace policies that encourage individual initiative and wealth creation, instead of the zero-sum game of wealth redistribution.

With limited seating, please make your reservations as soon as possible by contacting me or the Institute's Events Coordinator, Ms. Nichelle Beardsley, at 800-927-8733 or by registering online.
